Jessica and Steve warm up the Bay Area

August is foggy and cool in the Bay Area, especially along the coast. Jessica and Steve live in San Deigo so I was worried the chilly temps would not be so fun for them. Luckily they both grew up in Northern California so they were prepared with warm clothes and were total troopers. I’m sure they were pretty happy to get back to the sunny, warm beaches in Southern California.

Sumi and Sam’s wedding at Dawn Ranch Lodge

It was great working with Sumi and Sam. They put on a fantastic event at the Dawn Ranch Lodge in Guerneville, Calif. Most of the guests stayed there, turning the wedding into a festive event that went on all weekend. The wedding day was joyful and colorful, with a rocking party at the end.

Thanks Sumi and Sam! We had a blast.

Double down

It has been a strange year weather-wise in northern California. When I first started talking with Jack and Ivy about their wedding, the threat of rain never crossed my mind for their June ceremony. But the forecast did indeed call for rain that week. They tented the dinner area at 12 Oaks in preparation but held firm that they would be married in the outdoor garden. Everyone said Jack is a gambling man and he was doubling down on this. Though it rained much of the morning, patches of sun started coming through as the ceremony hour approached. We did many of the family photos before the ceremony and spent a lot of the time running back and forth for cover under the porch of the house. There were still a few sprinkles as Ivy and her dad made their way down the aisle but that was it for the rain that day. Sunny skies for the rest of the ceremony and reception. And the tent turned out to be great help, in any case: It kept the grass from getting soaked. Either way they threw quite a party.

Big thanks to Liz for the great groom prep shots

Gorgeousness at the Flood Mansion

It was such a delight to work with Karen and Cort. They are both so sweet and gracious, even thanking their vendors by name in a toast during the reception. Very nice. After the prep shots at the Hotel Drisco we headed to the Lyon Street Steps for fun photos with the bride and groom before the ceremony at the Flood, followed by quite a dance party. The couple are clearly adored by friends and family.

It was great to work with:

McCalls
Passiflora Designs
Keith Johnson’s All Stars
Oren Arieli of Awesome Shot Studios
Sarah Hyde
Magnolia Photo Booth

My fabulous assistant Liz covered the groom prep

Another great shot from Liz!

The Schachter family

These are exciting and expanding times for the Schachter family.

First we’ll start with Dana and Jordan. I photographed their wedding back in 2006 at Trentadue winery in Geyserville, Ca. These two are special clients because they both operate their own small businesses so we have a lot in common. Jordan is a personal chef who teaches very popular cooking classes and Dana teaches yoga and is a massage therapist. I took her prenatal yoga class last year and it was fantastic.

A few weeks ago I received a call from Jordan’s mom that his two sisters and their families were headed to San Francisco for Mother’s Day and it would be great to set up a photo shoot for everyone. Perfect timing since Dana and Jordan became parents only 6 weeks ago to lovely Sati Rose, Jordan’s sister has a 7-month old, and Jordan’s other sister is now engaged! A big thanks to Jordan’s mom for this special gift.

Jordan, Dana and Sati below:

Jordan’s sister Lindsey and her husband Aaron have 7-month-old Dylan. A cutie patootie with cool hipster hair.

And Jordan’s other sister Jenna will be marring Danny this fall.

A look back at Dana and Jordan’s gorgous wedding back in 2006. It was so great to see you all again!

Ivy and Jack

The Hunky Jesus Contest at Dolores Park unexpectedly detoured Ivy and Jack’s engagement session to alternate locations in the Mission. Such fun to see everyone dressed up but we headed first to Monk’s Kettle and then to a couple of other impromptu street spots in the hood. Once the Hunky Jesus’ cleared out of the park, we returned to grab the last of the light. Thanks so much Ivy and Jack!

Short and sweet

Carla and David were married at Blackie’s Pasture in Tiburon, the site of their first date. They had a lovely, short and sweet ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends.
